Mark works at Lumon Industries, a company that uses a technological identity-splitting procedure on its employees. Each of the two lives—professional and personal—is completely unaware of the other. Mark’s balance, along with that of his colleagues, begins to unravel with the arrival of Helly and when Lumon’s unclear intentions start raising ethical doubts about the splitting procedure.
